The Beacon The official weekly publication of The Rotary Club of Bakersfield Breakfast As I am writing this edition of The Beacon, enjoying a cup of coffee, and savoring a chocolate muffin from our Breakfast Rotary meeting at Seven Oaks this Wednesday morning, I was thinking about how Pete Leveroni keeps getting such outstanding speakers to present to the membership each week. It may be a secret Pete has, like the secret of success Pete and his wife have maintained for being so successful in their business ownership over the years. Whatever the reason, our presentations are fabulous, thanks to Pete. This morning’s program is teasing us about what is coming this year. So, members, if you’re missing out…don’t. Join us for awesome fellowship with each other each Wednesday morning, celebrate our club, and be prepared for fun, frolic, and friendship in 2023! Okay, back to this chocolate muffin… President Karen Bonanno called the meeting to order with not one but two rings of the bell just because our club members are so raucous and need to settle down enough to stop chatting with one another. As the membership yielded, President Karen invited dear Stephanie Baker to the podium for our invocation. Noteworthy was her request for safety and security for those in harm’s way, given the recent flooding in our state. Thank You, Stephanie, for your thoughtfulness. Past President Cheryl Scott led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Carol Smith rang out “Is it the Truth” to fire up our vocal cords! William Gordon is known worldwide; ask his cousin Richard from England, who traveled to Bakersfield to visit family. Richard, I will presume his last name is Gordon, is a college student with interest in pursuing real estate as a career. I certainly hope William will take some time from answering phone calls from his real estate clients to share with his cousin the tricks of the trade. Cheryl Scott, given the proximity of her business relationship with the guest speaker and her cadre at the Kern Community College District, Cheryl was compelled to introduce them as guests. Therefore, greetings to our speaker Nicole Parra, her father, former Kern County Supervisor Pete Parra, friend newspaper columnist Steve Flores, and Nicole’s co-workers Stacy Shepard and Sara Sullivan. Geez, not a Rotarian among them…whaaaat’s up! |
