WILD POLIO VIRUS - I’m happy to say that there were no new cases of
the wild polio virus last week in either Afghanistan nor Pakistan.

FORTY-EIGHT - The number of days since the last case of
the wild poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) occurred in Afghanistan.

THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX - The number of days since the last
case of the wild poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) occurred in Pakistan.

FIVE - The total number of cases of the wild poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) that
have occurred worldwide since January 1st, 4 in Afghanistan and 1 in
Pakistan.

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE - The number of cases of
the wild poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) that occurred in 2020 on this date.

Although there were no new cases of wild polio, there were 2 cases of wild
Positive Environmental Samples reported in Pakistan last week. So the
count of wild Positive Environmental Samples are now at 66, 65 in
Pakistan and 1 in Afghanistan since January 1st, with the last positive
sample discovered in Pakistan on December 6th.
