This issue of The Beacon will be short and sweet, my friends. If you’re going to fill in for Frank, make sure it’s a slow news day.

Those of us brave enough to face the wind and dust (and probably smoke) in the dark of an early Fall morning were met at the Kern County Museum by Kay Pitts and Dave Spalinger (who both went above and beyond as Greeters) and directed to the super cute and appropriately named Trolley Room. We welcomed two visiting Rotarians (Sandy Foster and Mike McCoy) and three visitors (yes, Madam President Cheryl Scott, Darren is technically a visitor). We wished Connie Bensusen (11/2) and David Perkins (11/4) happy birthdays, and congratulated Marilee Reagor (8 years), Michele McClure (10 years), and Cheryl Scott (27 years!!) on their service to Rotary.

President Cheryl presented us with the Rotary Trivia Quiz which included such gems as “Who was the founder of Rotary?” (Paul Harris) and “Who was BBRC’s first president?” (John McWhorter). One question was too much for one BBRCer: “Who is BBRC’s current Club Service Director?” Michele McClure was quite tickled (and fined $20) to discover that this is her official title. One of the questions was about Rotary’s six Areas of Focus. As an FYI, our Facebook will emphasize one of these during its designated month throughout the year.
