Those of us on Zoom finally heard sound somewhere in the middle of “Deck the Halls.” It really is beginning to feel like Christmas! You all sounded amazing!
Program
BBRC dove right into the program with guest Anthony Cordova, Dean of Instruction at Bakersfield College (Go Gades!) overseeing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Career Education, and the Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Automation. Yes, you read that right, Bachelor’s Degree at Bakersfield College!
One of BC’s goals is to identify and fill the gap of talented and educated workforce in Kern County. They satisfy this goal by developing student
s’ academic, technical, and employability skills and by providing students with ongoing education and training to gain and finetune skills. BC has the following career pathways: Agriculture and Natural Resources; Arts, Media, and Communication; Business Management and Information Technology; Engineering and Industrial Technology; Health Services; and Public and Human Services. They also provide work experience and internships.

Students can attain a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Automation at the fraction of the cost of attending a four-year college. Most students graduate the program with a job and a great starting salary.
Bakersfield College is always looking to improve and expand. They are currently working on ways to follow up with students that complete programs, especially in rural areas. BC is also looking to expand its excellent culinary program to Taft High and to the Bishop/Mammoth area.

Happy 30th anniversary to David Lari and his beautiful bride, Marti, on December 1. How did they celebrate? They remodeled their kitchen (President Dave was happy to admit that he may have had something to do with the remodel).
Speaking of anniversaries on December 1, THREE of our BBRCers celebrated their 25 Rotary anniversaries: Neil Walker, Pete Leveroni, and David Lari. Congratulations, gentlemen!

Carol Smith discovered that 33 BBRCers do not have a profile picture in Club Runner. She will be happy to take a picture of you and upload. (I see fines in our future if a picture is not uploaded to your profile so get on it). AND if you don't remember this you will contribute to the coffer: The Beacon Clue is How many BBRCers did not have a profile picture in ClubRunner at the beginning of the December 2 meeting?
Denise Haynes thanked those who packed and distributed Thanksgiving food boxes at Boys and Girls Club of Kern County. 30 baskets were given out.
Christmas shopping with kids will be Saturday, December 12, beginning at 6am at the Target at East Hills.
Bell Ringing for Salvation Army is on hold until we get more information.
Michele McClure announced that this month’s social, in lieu of our holiday party, will be a guided tour at Portrait of a Warrior Gallery at 1925 Eye Street on Sunday, December 6. Snacks and beverages will be served following the tour.

We saw some serious bank from our President! Dave was $50 happy for his recent trip to Lake Tahoe. Along with a $34 fine for shameless self-promotion and the purchase of a new work truck.
Congratulations to Stephanie Baker on another anniversary of being cancer-free!! She was $120 happy!!
Neil Walker is $50 happy (reduced to $30 since he was voluntold to pay Cheryl Rydia’s fine) on the birth of his granddaughter, Audrey. Oh, what a cute Papa you will be.
