Pretty in Pink was one of a number of those trendy 1980’s movies featuring the young actress Molly Ringwald. Do you remember? It was about the awkward teenager, played by Ringwald, who gets the guy of her dreams at the movie's end. As much as that movie brought smiles to our faces, the film had nothing on how Pretty in Pink Breakfast Rotarians were Wednesday morning during our meeting with District 5240 Governor Scott Phillips. Members dressed in pretty pink t-shirts, or whatever pink garb they had, impressed the new governor with the early morning colorful. The color pink, of course, represents breast cancer awareness.
Perfectly fitting, Robert Provencio provided the morning invocation, which included blessings upon our Rotary club and all Rotary clubs working diligently towards achieving their goals in whatever efforts they are most sincere about. Special thanks to those dedicated Rotarians who are in continuous service to those who benefit from the many programs we as Rotarians focus our attention to service. Teresa Ramos led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Song Leader Carol Smith, turning up the already contagious enthusiasm in the room with a rendition of the song, “Is it the truth.”
Darling Donna Schwartz was responsible for announcing Rotary guests, including Bill Lever of Downtown, Quon Louey of East, functioning as this year’s District 5240 area representative, and Scott Phillips. The latter calls the Goleta Luncheon club his Rotary home. We had a couple of guests too! They included Past President Kay Pitts husband, Brian Pitts, who was kind enough to take time from his busy retirement schedule to photograph memorable moments of our visit with “The Governor.” Charter member 40 years plus, Dennis Scott, was in the house with his charming wife, Fran. Dennis and Fran are celebrating 48 years together, ladies and gents! Congratulations.
