INVOCATION: Troy Fringer.  Included a blessing for our outgoing and incoming Rotary Officers.

FLAG SALUTE: Dave Spalinger. There wasn’t a flag so we all just reverently looked at the middle of our tables paying tribute to the mini flags.

SONG: Carol Smith chose the 4-Way Test for the last song of our Rotary year.

VISITORS: Always happy with a microphone, Cheryl Scott announced no visiting Rotarians and no visitors.

 

 

 

 

When Pres/Queen Jackie came to the microphone for the last time, she dawned her royal crown to begin the meeting.  No speaker for today's meeting as the Queen had special thanks to hand out.  So, she started with announcements:

 

 

                          

 

Sandra Parnell informed us one of her goals for her year is to not collect anymore “crap” and to reduce the accumulated “crap”.  She brought Thousand Flags Fun Run t-shirts to disperse for $10 each and children’s t’s for free.  She also put Fun Run dog tags on all tables for the taking. 

 

Marti Sanders thanked everyone for bringing household items for Aspiranet.  The group helps youth transitioning out of foster care into their own housing. She said donations are still being accepted.  She, Denise Haynes and Donna Schwartz will be organizing the loot soon.  Anyone else interested in helping with that task, please contact Marti.  Donna chimed in with a sincere thank you to everyone for their contributions.

BIRTHDAYS: None this week.  When Pres. Jackie told Bart the birthday monkey he wouldn’t be singing this week, he became very distresses and had to “take to the bed”. Jackie showed a picture of poor Bart looking very sad, in bed.

 

 

CLUB ANNIVERSARIES: Only one, Jacque Alexander is an 8yr Rotarian as of June 20^th.  She contributed many, many hours and was Rotarian of the Year a few years back.

                                   

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES:  Troy and Jodi Fringer are celebrating 40 years with a trip over to Pismo.  Queen Jackie let Troy know the traditional gift for 40 is a ruby ring, the gift of true love.  Duncan and Kendra Harris (Duncan, not present) celebrate 18 years. The traditional gift is porcelain.  Darin and Sharon Blunt (Darin, not present) celebrate 27years, which warrants the traditional gift of a sculpture. Jeff and Amy Bell celebrated 29 years. The traditional gift is furniture.

 

                            

 

HAPPY SPOTS: David Perkins jumped up eager to bestow some unique items to our Pres.  He recently traveled to Prague.  He gifted a model of an Astronomical Clock he was told should function at least until he got it to Jackie and a demitasse cup which is used to sip water out of a special stream. He was $20 happy.  Kay Pitts and hubby Brian traveled to Banff Canada.  Kay made a very generous donation to Polio Plus in Jackie’s name. Jacque Alexander was happy Grandson, Jacob, graduated from high school and promptly got two jobs: barista at Starbucks on Hageman & Coffee and a host at Applebee’s.

 

 

                   

Queen Jackie resumed the position at the podium for her portion of the meeting. 

Keeping to the music theme of her year, Jackie challenged us to a “Name that Tune” competition. The room was divided into 2 teams.  Song Mistress Carol played one note at a time on the piano for us to attempt guesses, one team at a time. At the end of it all we learned all songs begin with the same 3 notes. Only after clues as to who sung and/or what type of song, were any of them guessed.  I think Team 1 won. Here are the songs: Billy Jean (not guessed by team 1), I Wanna Hold Your Hand (guessed by T2), Sweet Caroline (guessed, T1), Uptown Funk (guessed by T1 for T2), Hey Jude (guessed, T1), Brown Eyed Girl (guessed by T1 for T2), Shake It Off (guessed by T1). And of course, the Jimmy Buffet finale Margaritaville (guessed by T1 for T2).

She brought up photos of the loot she collected from our membership.  She said we are, “a well-traveled club”.  She thanked everyone for the gifts and said it was very fun to receive them all.

 

The remaining meeting time was dedicated to Pres. Jackie offering a special and

personalized thank you to each of her “Behind the Scenes” folk and her Board.  She also gave nicknames to each of the behind-the-scenes people based on their job. Dave Perkins-Perky Perkins(weekly photos and Pr), Sally Selby-Shout Out Selby (PR), Teresa Waller-Writin’ Waller (Beacon), Bryon Wooster-Wiz Wooster (meeting audio visual), Mindy Wilmot-Tranquil Wilmot (Peace Chair), Stephanie Baker-Steady Steph (awards & everyone’s fill in), Pete Leveroni-Planning Pete (weekly programs), Anne Galvez-Guiding Galvez (weekly task reminders), Carol Smith-Carolin’ Carol (mtng. Songs).  This fine, dedicated bunch were given a thumb drive with all the songs Jackie played during her meetings and a really cool car sunshade that boasts the Rotary logo and says, “People of Action”.

Her Board received the same 2 gifts plus a gift cert to Luigi’s.  Dave Lari-VP, Jacque Alexander-Scy, Cameron Cerda-Treasurer who “became a very good bean counter”, Sandra Parnell-Foundation Chair and Pres. Elect. Jackie thanked her for her good work with the Foundation. Through her efforts the Foundation increased $18,600, the Endowment $43,600. She wished luck in her coming year, Erick Bautista-Vocational, Jackie said her favorite was the Career Talk he organized for the Golden Valley Off Site. She gave Erick her mascot moose for Erick’s son, Rio. Jeff Schwartz-International, his efforts saw our participation in the Color of Hope for Romania and a contribution to West Rotary’s on-going dental project in Guatemala. Marti Sanders-Community Services, awarded Rotarian of the Year, had a service project every month and Jackie is “crazy about ya”. Jennifer Henry-Club Service. Jackie noted how very creative and fun the socials were.  Mayah Salinas - Youth Services. Jackie noted Mayah did a great job of being present for the 3 groups and coordinating the annual RYLA and Three-Way Test. Tom Burke-Thousand Flags. Still recuperating Jackie said he coordinated a “very successful Flags”. And finally, Temo Lopez-Membership. He was “crazy” good and creative and did a great job of making the new members feel at ease.

Jackie thanked all the Past Presidents who stepped up to fill in during her travels. 

 

 

With that, she pulled the winning ticket for $47 was claimed by Ken Quarnberg who added $3 and donated it to the $50 to the endowment.

 

We will be dark until Wednesday July 8^th when we will see you all back here to welcome incoming President Sandra Parnell’s first meeting.  You won’t want to miss it.
